London Photo Stories: Barbican

As unique spaces in London go, the Barbican Complex ranks right near the top. Reduced to rubble during the blitz, it was reconstructed throughout the 60's and 70's at a time when brutalist architecture was extremely popular.

Walking around the Barbican can be a strange experience, as its concrete estates, old laundrettes and fading colours are all at odds with the glistening Silk Street law firms and glass skyscrapers of the financial district. Nonetheless, as one of London's most important cultural sites and a grade II listed location, the architecture of the Barbican Complex gives a fascinating glimpse into the London of 50 years prior.
